A glimpse of what’s coming

By Lorraine Clement

Hi everyone, I’m Lorraine, the president of The New Fashion Society this year. First, I wanted to welcome you to our brand-new website! New year, new us. I hope you will appreciate it as much as we do.

Despite the restrictions created by Coronavirus, the board and I have a lot of exciting ideas for the year to come. And when I say exciting ideas, I mean really exciting ideas. As of now, we are going to keep it a surprise, but I promise you that great things are coming. However, what I can share with you is the direction towards which we want to lead NFS this year. If I had to put it down in one word it would be inclusivity.

This year we want to bring the NFS community closer together. By including alumni in our events, having more activities with our active members and making our committees collaborate more with one another, we aim at conserving and nurturing the family feeling that was initiated during the Active Member Weekend in Paris last year. We want our members to feel good, welcome, and valued.

At a wider scale, we want to be more inclusive regarding the type of fashion we work with. So far, the New Fashion Society has been mainly focusing on European Fashion because it is the center of the luxury industry. However, in the past couple of years, our focus has been drifting towards other types of fashion such as Streetwear. This year we would like to include fashion from different continents that we haven’t been exploring until now. The wealth of the industry comes from its variety and it is very important to us to explore it further.

Our third and last objective is to enlarge our definition of fashion. It is a very broad word and we feel like we’ve only been focusing on some aspects while partially overlooking others. The fashion industry is not only limited to its designers; it also includes photographers, journalists, make-up artists, influencers, and so on. We would really like to have the opportunity to let our active members discover more about those jobs.

I hope you all are as excited as we are for this upcoming academic year! We are very much looking forward to meeting all of you, collaborating with you, or seeing you at our events.
